How Long Does Pixel Watch Last? Battery Life & Charging Time, Explained

The Google Pixel Watch competes with Android smartwatches like the Galaxy Watch series, but does it outperform them in terms of battery life?

Google's Pixel Watch comes with a bunch of advanced features, such as an always-on display, water-resistance, Fitbit integration, and more, but how long does it last on a single charge? Many users are investing in good-quality smartwatches to monitor their lifestyle and activity levels. While a smartwatch could have all the features users want, its pretty much useless if it doesn't offer enough battery life to run the entire day.

For instance, the Apple Watch is among the most popular wearables, but users often complain about its poor battery life. Even with the latest Watch Series 8, Apple sticks with 18 hours of usage on a full charge. On the other hand, companies like Samsung are breaking the stereotype by packing in more endurance. The Galaxy Watch 4 offers up to 40 hours of battery life, and the company has improved this with the Galaxy Watch 5.

As per the official website, the Pixel Watch features a 294mAh lithium-ion battery that is rated to last up to 24 hours. Google also mentions that the actual battery life will depend upon the features enabled by users, which is true for every smartwatch. While some users like to track their heart rate and blood oxygen levels through the day, others track their vitals occasionally. Another factor that determines the effective battery life is the always-on display. Those who enable the feature should expect less runtime from the smartwatch.

How Fast Does The Pixel Watch Charge?

Another important detail Google mentions is the smartwatch's charging time. The Pixel Watch can charge from zero to 50 percent in about 30 minutes, and from 50 percent to 80 percent in another 25 minutes with the magnetic charging dock that comes with the watch (tested with Google's 18W power adapter not included in the box). It takes the Pixel Watch another 25 minutes to fill up the last 20 percent of its battery, meaning it takes about 80 minutes to charge completely. Google appears to have deliberately limited the charging speed after the battery reaches a certain level. This feature is also found in other products, including Apple's iPhones that limit charging speeds after 80 percent to preserve battery health.

Since the Google Pixel Watch works with Android phones, it has to compete with the Galaxy Watch 5, one of the best smartwatches on the market. So does the Pixel Watch outperform the Galaxy Watch 5 in terms of battery life? Compared to the 294mAh battery on the Pixel Watch, the regular Galaxy Watch 5 has a 284mAh battery. However, even with a smaller battery, the Galaxy Watch is rated to last up to 50 hours, which is more than double the maximum battery life of the Pixel Watch. Although both the smartwatches have displays with 1,000 nits peak brightness, the Galaxy Watch 5 runs on a 5nm chipset, whereas the Pixel Watch runs on a three-year-old 10nm chipset. Nevertheless, the Pixel Watch still offers a day's worth of battery life and is a great device to pair with Pixel phones.
