The Batman Runtime Listed By Theaters (But Is It Real?)

Multiple sites list conflicting runtimes for The Batman, with some having it as the longest Batman movie to date at almost three hours long.

The Batman runtime has been revealed, but multiple sources are giving different answers leading to the question or even riddle of which runtime is the real one. Directed by Matt Reeves, The Batman will see Bruce Wayne (Robert Pattinson) go up against the mysterious Riddler (Paul Dano) as well as the thief Catwoman (Zoe Kravitz) and gangster The Penguin (Colin Ferrell). After multiple delays the film is finally set to hit theaters on March 4, 2012, just a few months shy of the ten-year anniversary of Batman's last live-action solo outing in The Dark Knight Rises.

Despite concerns of the Omicron virus, WB is sticking to its first week of March release date which fittingly will arrive a week before the two-year anniversary of when theaters shut down due to the COVID-19 crisis. As the release date grows closer, the marketing for The Batman has gone into full swing. The film received a PG-13 rating like all other live-action theatrically released Batman films. More posters, production stills, and ads have been featured for the film to build anticipation for the movie yet one thing still unknown is how long the film will be.

Various different sites have started to list runtimes for The Batman but it is unclear which, if any, is an accurate runtime. IMAX Melbourne has The Batman's runtime listed at 176 minutes or 2 hours and 56 minutes, which matches the runtime currently listed on IMDb which says 2 hours and 55 minutes. However, Rotten Tomatoes currently has the film's runtime listed at 2 hours and 13 minutes. At this time, Warner Bros. has not listed an official runtime for The Batman so these listed runtimes are still rumors.

If the 2 hour and 56-minute runtime is the accurate one, that will make The Batman the longest Batman movie released theatrically beating The Dark Knight Rises which has a runtime of 2 hours and 45 minutes. If the 2 hour and 13-minute runtime listed by Rotten Tomatoes is accurate, that will put it 7 minutes below the runtime of Batman Begins but still a few minutes longer than any of the Tim Burton or Joel Schumacher entries in the Batman franchise. A runtime will likely be confirmed around February, about a month before the film's release.

The Batman is Warner Bros.'s big return to theatrical exclusivity after their 2021 experiment of releasing new films in theaters and on HBO Max. This decision hampered the studio's box office and they did not have a single film in the domestic box office Top 10. Batman as a character has always been one of the studio's most valuable franchises, and his films have been the number 1 film at the box office in both 1989 and 2008, so Warner Bros. is hoping for that same magic again. With how positive the film's trailers have been received by audiences, there is a chance no matter the runtime audiences will still turn out for a Batman movie.
