Dragon Ball's Gogeta Vs. Vegito: Which Fusion Would Win in a Fight?

The fusions of Goku and Vegeta are two of the most powerful fighters in Dragon Ball. Who would win in a fight between Gogeta and Vegito?

In Dragon Ball, the Goku-Vegata rivalry is one of the central story points of the whole saga. Not only does it provide an intense competition between the onetime enemies that powers the underlying story of Goku’s quest to be the best fighter in existence, but it also supplements and improves the various story arcs that run through the series. So it's amazing when Goku and Vegeta agree to literally combine themselves into one body to defeat an opponent neither could defeat on their own. This has occurred on two different occasions, meaning it's only natural that fans would wonder which of these fusions—Gogeta or Vegito—would beat the other in a fight?

The first Goku-Vegeta fusion occurrs as a response to Buu’s destruction of the Earth. To assist Goku in his battle with Buu, Old Kai gives him his Potara Earrings. The power of the earrings allows two people to combine their powers when they each wear one of the rings. Goku offers one of the earrings to Vegeta to combine to beat Buu. After initially refusing the trick Vegeta eventually consents. The resulting transformation creats Vegito. Naturally, once Goku and Vegata's powers are combined, Vegito’s powers are off-the-charts. Nevertheless, it is not a combination that Vegeta particularly likes, and when the opportunity to separate arises, Vegeta is quick to end the fusion.

Despite his reluctance to combine, Goku is again able to persuade Vegeta that two Saiyans are better than one during their encounter with Janemba. This time, however, the fusion is not brought about by a pair of magical earrings, but rather through a special dance where both have to move in synchronicity with the other just as if they are staring at the other in the mirror. The resulting fusion creates Gogeta. Like Vegito, the combination of the abilities of the two foremost fighters in the universe create a potent opponent.

Since both combinations are fusions of the same two people, it would seem that from a strength, strategy, and confidence perspective, their power levels should be equal. A deeper analysis might further argue that since Buu is a much stronger opponent than Janemba, Vegito is the stronger form. However, the process of transformation into each form provides the ultimate clue to their power. Under the Potara Earring fusion technique, simply sharing earrings provides the ability to combine. The combination powers up Vegito to otherworldly levels. He is unfazed by anything that Buu throws at him, and just ends up toying with him as if fighting him is just a game that he could end at any time.

Conversely, partaking in the Fusion Dance technique is a little more involved. Unlike the Potara form, it requires the two participants to be physically similar. Secondly, it requires dance. That is, participants must work together both before dancing, as well as during the actual dance to achieve the perfect formation. That need for cooperation suggests that when the form is achieved, the synergies of powers and capabilities are at a much higher level than with the Potara form. To be sure, the Potara form can combine any two people, which may result in some inherent conflicts in the combination. On the other hand, in the Fusion Dance form the participants must be on the same page to even achieve the form.

So, which Dragon Ball combination wins? The synchronicity required to achieve the Fusion Dance form means it is the most powerful form. While the Vegito is powerful, at some point there will be tension between the elements of Goku and Vegeta that remain. Conversely, when combining to form Gogeta, Goku, and Vegeta are on the same page from the beginning to end. There will be no tension; just harmony of purpose. That harmony means that the combination of their skills, experience, and technique as Gogeta will be unstoppable, even against his twin, Vegito.
