Super Nintendo World US Shows Off Its Incredible Mario Kart Ride

Universal Studios Hollywood has released a trailer for the Mario Kart ride that will be part of the US version of Super Nintendo World when the theme park opens in early 2023. Super Nintendo World's early 2023 opening is music to the ears of many Nintendo fans, as Japan's still strict border controls have ensured that international tourists have been unable to visit the Super Nintendo World in Osaka.

The only Super Nintendo World in existence might be inaccessible to tourists, but it won't be the only one of its kind for long. The Super Nintendo World in Universal Studios Hollywood is the closest to completion, but there will also be Super Nintendo Worlds in Universal Studios Orlando and Universal Studios Singapore, both of which are set to be completed in 2025. The Universal Studios Hollywood park might also coincide with the release of the animated Super Mario Bros. movie, which was delayed to 2023, assuming both keep to their current schedule.

The official Universal Studios Hollywood Twitter account is hyping up the opening of its Super Nintendo World with a trailer for one of its biggest rides. The trailer features the Mario Kart ride in Super Nintendo World, which will combine a physical vehicle, track, and obstacles, with an AR visor and projection mapping technology used to display the other racers on the course. These elements are all used together to make the attendee feel as if they're really racing in a Mario Kart game.

The official name of the Mario Kart ride is Mario Kart: Bowser's Challenge, and it will be found in the Bowser's Castle part of Super Nintendo World. The ride will feature recreations of Mario Kart stage obstacles, like Piranha Plants and Chain Chomps, along with screens depicting roaring crowds of Toads. The aim of the Mario Kart: Bowser's Challenge is for players to win the prestigious Universal Cup, which bears the symbol of the park upon it. The Mario Kart: Bowser's Challenge ride is also compatible with Super Nintendo World's Power-Up Bands that are used throughout the park, which also operate as amiibo for the Nintendo Switch consoles.

The Mario Kart franchise is a natural fit for a Nintendo theme park, and Mario Kart: Bowser's Challenge looks like it's going to be incredible. There are other possibilities for future vehicle-style rides to arrive in the future, such as an F-ZeroMetroid, or Star Fox ride, which has its own futuristic race tracks. The current Super Nintendo World is dominated by attractions based on the Super Mario Bros. franchise, but there is scope for the park to expand into other game series. The original Super Nintendo World is adding Donkey Kong content in the future, and even more Nintendo franchises will likely be added to all of the parks in the coming years, so an F-Zero ride that challenges Mario Kart: Bowser's Challenge is a possibility.
