Star Trek: Lower Decks Gets Season 4 Renewal

Paramount+’s Star Trek animated comedy series Lower Decks has been renewed for a third and fourth season following a successful second outing.

Paramount +’s animated comedy spinoff Star Trek: Lower Decks has been given a renewal for a fourth season following the recent announcement of Star Trek: Lower Decks season 3. Lower Decks, which debuted in 2020, follows the crew of the U.S.S Cerritos; with red-shirt ensigns including Mariner and Boimler, as they explore civilizations and keep the ship running from a smaller perspective. The self-aware cartoon comedy pokes fun at tropes of the long-running Star Trek franchise and has been mostly well-accepted by fans and non-fans alike.

Following the recent second season, which wrapped up in October, Lower Decks has officially been renewed for two more outings. Following the news of a third season order, a subsequent fourth season has now been given a renewal by Paramount+. The double-order shows that Lower Decks is going from strength to strength. With season 3 expected later this year, it’s likely Star Trek: Lower Decks season 4 will follow suit in 2023.

The Star Trek universe is now arguably more prominent than ever, with a vast and varied franchise now spread across several shows and media. Star Trek: Discovery is currently on its fourth season, with its familiar but fresh take on the usual live-action Star Trek series formula. Star Trek: Picard is about to return for a second run, having successfully reintroduced Patrick Stewart’s iconic captain. Meanwhile, Nickelodeon has brought another animated Trek adventure; Star Trek: Prodigy to younger viewers. Lower Decks’ third and fourth season order only proves that Star Trek is as popular as it has ever been. Star Trek: Lower Decks returns for season 3 in May.
