Sonic The Hedgehog Google Search Easter Egg: How To Find & Unlock Super Sonic
Many might already know that there's a Sonic the Hedgehog Easter egg in Google Search, but they might not know you can also unlock Super Sonic.
There’s a Sonic the Hedgehog Easter egg hidden in Google Search. The Sonic Easter egg is no longer new, and was reported on before. However, there’s also somewhat of an Easter egg within an Easter egg here. Not only can users play with a Sonic animation, but they can also unlock Super Sonic. Here’s how.
Over the years, Google has routinely added Easter eggs to its products and services, including Search. In fact, movie and game Easter eggs are among the most common types. Similar hidden treats are available for Thanos and The Avengers, as well as The Wizard of Oz. In this sense, the Sonic the Hedgehog Google Search hidden treat is not anything special, although it is a nice change to the typical search engine experience for fans of the popular franchise.
This particular Easter egg has been around for some time and long before the release of 2020's Sonic the Hedgehog movie. In fact, while it was reported on when the movie’s first trailer was released, it was actually around before then. One of the reasons for this is that, despite the movie links and timing, the actual Easter egg itself is themed around the Sonic the Hedgehog classic Sega game — not the live-action movie.
How To Go Super Sonic On Google Search
With Google Search being a search engine, every Easter egg requires a specific phrase to activate. The Sonic the Hedgehog Easter egg is no different. The shortest way to access the hidden feature is by searching for 'Sonic game' although other variants, such as 'Sonic video game,' also work. Irrespective of the search term used, the results need to generate a knowledge panel for Sonic the Hedgehog — the Google information box that provides confirmed facts related to the keywords. As this one is specific to the Sonic the Hedgehog game series, searching just for 'Sonic the Hedgehog' or 'Sonic' won't work as it will return a knowledge panel about the Sonic movie instead. That’s an important distinction as a small Sonic image needs to show up in the knowledge panel to be able to activate the Easter egg.
Users will know they've found the Easter egg when they see an animated Sonic image in that knowledge panel. Clicking on Sonic once will start a spinning animation along with a familiar Sonic game sound. Users can then keep clicking Sonic and keep him spinning over and over again. And that’s the key to unlocking Super Sonic. Simply click the animation often enough, and once Sonic gets his speed up, the transformation takes place. Sonic pauses, lets out a small yell, and takes on his iconic yellow/white Super Sonic appearance.
Unlike some other Google Search Easter eggs, this one works on smartphones, as well as desktops. Just look for that Google knowledge panel, and Sonic should be there waiting for you. Last but not least, there's one final secret hiding in this Easter egg. After searching 'Sonic game' and finding the animated Sonic character, don't click or tap on him. After a few seconds, Sonic eventually lies down and starts yawning out of boredom.
