Animal Crossing: How to Get More Snowflakes (& What They’re For)
Snowflakes are a resource that appear during winter seasons in Animal Crossing New Horizons. Here's how to get them and what they're used for.
Animal Crossing: New Horizons players will have more furniture to design their dream town with as the game continues to bring more seasonal furniture. Creating new decorations with DIY recipes is the main theme of this installment, and the arrival of colder weather has brought with it a new resource to craft with: snowflakes.
Making their return from New Leaf, snowflakes are a crafting resource that signify the coming of Winter. This seasonal material appears whenever snow blankets the ground, which will always be designated as the 11th of December in the Northern Hemisphere and 11th of June in the Southern Hemisphere. Or, available year-round to those willing to time travel. When the snow melts in 2 months, snowflakes will no longer appear, making them a crafting resource with limited availability. Here’s how to easily catch these chilly flakes in New Horizons, and what they're used for.
Everything To Know About New Horizons’ Snowflakes
Just like with the cherry blossom petals and maple leaves, they can be found blowing in the wind and are caught with a net, like a bug. Running into one will cause it to disappear, so be sure to have a net ready to use. The player will get one or two chances to catch it, as it will despawn after a swung net misses it. Once caught, they can be kept in stacks of 10 in the inventory. To make more snowflakes appear, don’t just stand around. These icy flakes will continue to spawn all over the island, so running around will cause them to reappear. On top of the regular snowflakes, there are big ones that can be obtained. The only way to get them is by building a perfect snowboy using the little/small balls found around the island. These special snowmen are built by rolling up the biggest snowballs possible; provided the one on the bottom is bigger. Only one can be built per day, so players can only get one of these resources per day. Further, they cannot be built while on a friend’s island, so traveling elsewhere to build them will not yield anything.
Both big and regular snowflakes are used to create winter-themed DIY items. As before, these recipes can be obtained by shooting down the balloons that fly above the island using a slingshot. These floating presents will spawn twice every ten minutes, so be on the lookout for them while searching for the snowflakes.
